Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a prevalent hormonal condition that can greatly affect fertility. However, many individuals with PCOS can still achieve conception through the right treatment and lifestyle adjustments.

Understanding PCOS: A Common Condition Among Women

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) impacts around 5-13% of women of reproductive age and is marked by hormonal imbalances that may lead to irregular ovulation or anovulation (the absence of ovulation). This condition can create challenges in achieving pregnancy, as ovulation is crucial for conception. The key characteristics of PCOS include:

• Irregular Menstrual Cycles: Many women with PCOS experience inconsistent or missed periods, which can signal ovulation issues.

• Hormonal Imbalances: Increased levels of androgens (male hormones) and insulin resistance are prevalent in PCOS, resulting in symptoms such as weight gain, acne, and excessive hair growth.

Symptoms of PCOS 👇🏻

• Having polycystic ovaries does not necessarily indicate that you have PCOS. To receive a diagnosis of PCOS, you must also exhibit certain symptoms associated with the condition.

• These symptoms can differ from individual to individual. Some may experience only mild symptoms, while others might face a broader spectrum of more severe issues. Common symptoms include:

• irregular periods, or no periods at all

• an increase in facial or body hair (hirsutism)

• loss of hair on your head

• being overweight, seeing a rapid increase in weight, or finding it harder to lose weight

• oily skin, and acne

• difficulty getting pregnant (reduced fertility)

• tiny excess flaps of skin (skin tags) in the armpits or neck area

• areas of darker, thickened skin in body folds and creases (Acanthosis nigricans).

Do I have PCOS?

Many individuals with PCOS experience only mild symptoms and may discover their condition when they begin trying to conceive.

This is particularly common for those who have been using hormonal contraception, as it can create the illusion of regular periods. These simulated periods may be confused with genuine ones.

Moreover, the pill includes hormones that can alleviate PCOS symptoms, making them less noticeable. In fact, it is frequently prescribed to manage PCOS symptoms for those not seeking pregnancy, as it can enhance skin clarity and reduce excessive hair growth.

How is PCOS diagnosed?

A diagnosis of PCOS is made when you have any two of these:

• irregular periods, or no periods at all

• a transvaginal scan showing polycystic ovaries

• an increase in facial hair or body hair

• blood test results showing you have excess levels of testosterone.

Your GP will discuss your symptoms with you. They may do hormone tests and blood tests to find out if it is PCOS or perhaps a different condition.

How does PCOS affect ovulation?

Your ovaries house several sacs, known as follicles, that contain eggs. During a typical menstrual cycle, one follicle matures and then ruptures each month, releasing an egg into one of your fallopian tubes.

If you have PCOS, the follicles in your ovaries do not develop or release eggs on a monthly basis. Instead, they accumulate, which can appear as numerous cysts on an ultrasound. This accumulation is why PCOS is referred to as polycystic ovary syndrome, meaning "many cysts."

We have helped many successfully sway with PCOS and ENDO, sometimes using natural fertility, other times fertility medications have been added, and we also have 3 ladies to date that have successfully swayed with Cosmic Sway Method®️ using IUI. Yes, you can still naturally select the gender of your next baby using Intrauterine Insemination

(IUI) is a fertility treatment that involves placing specially prepared sperm directly into a woman's uterus during ovulation to increase the chances of pregnancy.

Understanding Endometriosis 🔬

Endometriosis occurs when cells similar to those in the uterus lining grow in other areas of the body. This condition can significantly affect your daily life, but there are various treatments available to provide relief.

Symptoms of Endometriosis 👇🏻

Endometriosis is frequently located in regions surrounding the uterus, including the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and the pelvic lining.

In some cases, it may also impact organs like the bladder and bowel. Rarely, endometriosis can be found in areas beyond the pelvis, such as the chest.

Symptoms happen when patches of endometriosis break down and bleed during your period but cannot leave your body.

You might have some symptoms during your period, such as:

• severe period pain, that stops you from doing your normal activities

• heavy periods, where you need to change your pads or tampons every 1 to 2 hours, or you may bleed through to your clothes.

• pain when you poo or pee

You can have other symptoms at any time in your menstrual cycle, such as:

• pain in your lower tummy and back (pelvic area)

• pain during or after sex

• extreme tiredness (fatigue)

• pain or bleeding in other areas, such as in the chest, which may cause shortness of breath and coughing up blood.

You may also have difficulty getting pregnant and have low mood or anxiety.

Endometriosis is frequently diagnosed in women and girls, starting from the onset of their periods (puberty) and continuing through to menopause. This condition can impact anyone who menstruates.
